RTÉ, Ireland’s National TV Broadcaster, expanded its headquarters to create an €18 million office development consisting of 3-floors with a central atrium and a basement carpark designed by the Scott Tallon Walker Architects. This expansion project was designed to accommodate TV programme employees.
We were commissioned to develop the first pair of spiral staircases in Ireland and Britain made with structural glass balustrades and a stainless steel cap rail. The key challenge at the time of the company’s development was to master the art of working with curved and raking glass to uphold the specifications and create a stunning spiral structure. To overcome this learning curve, we engaged the services of a highly specialised fabricator from the USA who visited our workshop and consulted with us on how to develop the best approach. Another challenge at that stage of our development was procuring spiral glass panels made to tight tolerance requirements.
Despite the challenges involved, through our network of niche industry experts we were able to successfully deliver according to the required standards and create two striking structures. Moreover, Scott Tallon Walker Architects won the Construction Excellence Award from European Building Magazine for the architectural design of the project.
