The historic Tynwald Parliament of the Isle of Man is said to be the oldest parliament in the world, dating back over 1,000 years. The main buildings were refurbished to maintain their aesthetic integrity which serve to accommodate members of the legislature and government staff in a series of buildings spanning over 3,000 m².
We provided solutions throughout the project including numerous stainless steel, aluminium and glass fittings and handrails. We developed a circular central staircase topped by a striking glass block dome which serves as the centrepiece, echoing the shape of the building which resembles a wedding cake. The brief was to deliver a stunning facetted glass balustrade with a curved stainless steel handrail and leather capping for the glass to reduce the facetted effect.
We delivered a range of quality solutions including the centrepiece of the project: an elegant circular staircase that complimented the design of this beautiful Legislative building. We overcame the unique challenge of co-ordinating the dimensioning of works from a remote island location while delivering a range of technical solutions within a tight timeframe.
