The Cork University Maternity Hospital is an €80 million, ultra-modern maternity hospital that opened in 2007. Located on the Cork University Hospital campus, the hospital provides a single centre for gynaecological, maternity and neonatal services. The project features modern architecture with gentle curving lines to give the project a feminine quality.
Our work involved developing two highly finished stainless steel structures: the glazed main entrance canopy, the double curvature stainless steel canopy and balustrade features on the entrance bridge. We developed 3D designs and prepared structural calculations and tests prior to manufacturing. We worked closely with many interfacing trades including bridge and façade specialists to create solutions that would integrate seamlessly with their work.
For the architectural design of the hospital, Reddy O’Riordan Staehli Architects won the 2006 Irish Architecture Awards. We are proud to have been part of this success of this unique project and to have contributed to the architectural design that creates a friendly, non-clinical environment for patients, mothers-to-be and their families.
